Sci-fi novel by Christopher Priest, first published in 1974. Partly based on the eponymous short story published in the New Writings in SF 22 magazine in 1973. The first and third part describes the main geroem- Gelvardom Mannom- first person, second and chetvёrtaya- from a third party.
Gelvard live in a city called "Earth" or just a city that is constantly moving on the rails from south to north, from the past to the future, with an average speed of about one mile in ten days. City forced to constantly move north, to keep up a certain point, "optimum", from which the city include moving from the north to the south of the planet´s surface. Because of this uniform movement of city residents are measured in miles, while, for example, majority is attained at the age of 650 miles ...
