Pierre Joseph Proudhon (Proudhon, Pierre Joseph) (1809-1865), French socialist, theorist of anarchism. A scholar and publicist, publisher of newspapers and deputy of the National Assembly, participant in the revolution of 1848, who spent his last years in emigration, Proudhon wrote many books and articles devoted to various fields of political and public life.
Having appeared in his views as an antagonist of the state machine, Proudhon was prosecuted by the authorities, and was also sharply criticized by the church and other public institutions.
